The Automation project

"We create opportunities to achieve big improvements with small means."

Automation involves setting up digital systems for the control, monitoring, and management of various parts of a process, with the goal of optimised operations, with the goal of optimised operations, increased safety and creating conditions for reduced energy consumption. The Automation project’s assignment is to develop this functionality in the new wastewater treatment system MAXIMA.

The reason automation is a dedicated project within the construction of MAXIMA is to ensure consistency across the different parts of the system, but also to enable a holistic view and the development of overarching automation solutions in collaboration with other projects and departments within VA SYD.

─ One of the biggest challenges for us is the rapid technological development. It takes a long time to build MAXIMA and it is uncertain whether the assumptions we make today will be relevant when we approach a completed system. We must be flexible and adapt to new technologies and insights along the way, says Pär Jönsson.

Interaction between people and technology

Close collaboration with colleagues within the programme, from other departments within VA SYD, and with future contractors is crucial to the success of the project. The team actively works on building relationships and communicating needs, which is essential to ensure alignment and synergies between operations and project activities.

It is exciting to shape the interaction between people and technology, and to have the opportunity to create major changes with relatively small means. Seeing how minor adjustments can lead to significant results is both inpiring and motivating.
