The time plan for MAXIMA

Planning and building a new regional wastewater treatment system takes time. A decisive milestone was reached in the summer of 2024, when an implementation decision came into place after an investment agreement was approved by the participating municipalities. Other key short-term milestones are obtaining an environmental permit and a permission to construct new outlet pipes. A market dialogue with potential entrepreneurs is underway, which is of great importance at this stage. The construction time for the wastewater treatment system is estimated to around eight years.

The planning of the new, joint wastewater treatment system dates back to 2017, when VA SYD began coordinating local expansion plans to create a comprehensive solution. The robust new MAXIMA wastewater treatment system will represent the best economic solution for the municipalities of Burlöv, Lomma, Lund and Malmö.

The construction of MAXIMA can begin when VA SYD has an environmental permit according to chapters 9 and 11 of the Environmental Code in place. Read more about the permit here

The start of construction is planned for 2027, and the entire system is expected to be operational by 2035.
